In the Divided Kingdom St. Augustine discusses the troubles in his time. How Jeroboam the King of Israel doesn't believe in God. People are being seduced by him. The people of God were worshipping other idols. They worshipped a false God name Baal.
Kings at the time offended God very much and his people. The temple was broken down and kept in captivity for seventy years. The broken temple was eventually rebuilt in some time.
The people of God were scattered. Elijah and Elisha were good prophets of God, and the people of God should've followed them. I believe they should've followed them so they could've avoided other troubles, and not make any regrettable mistakes.
